DEI Summit (April 2021)

Join CDA and IDA for the first in a series of DEI Summits in 2021. This event will explore how managing downtowns and public spaces has become much more than flower baskets and events. Experts will share best practices on economic development strategies, multi-generational leadership and cross-sector collaboration, and how it plays an important role in the work that we do.

Systemic inequality in our communities today requires place management professionals to create new practice models aimed directly at building diverse and inclusive cities.  It will be a lifelong journey, beginning with clearly understanding the history which defines today’s context.  We must understand our own individual responsibility to make change and the opportunities for each of us to work within the ecosystem of partners organizations, civic leaders, and place champions in our cities.  This session will speak to our past, focus on our individual responsibility, explore the intersection of place, race, and identity and the ecosystem where place managers can be most effective.

Join three professionals for a combination of presentation and facilitated discussion as we journey through historical context, our own individual opportunities and responsibilities, and the place management eco-system of partners we can work with to build more inclusive city centers, downtowns and livable urban places.
